The rules for using this site and buying course readers. Please read them before you order.
Last updated: September 25, 2026
These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) are a binding agreement between you and Course Reader Material LLC, a California limited liability company doing business as Course Reader Material (“Course Reader Material,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) and govern your use of CourseReaderMaterial.com (the “Site”) and every purchase you make through it. By creating an account, placing an order, or using the Site, you agree to these Terms, our Privacy Policy, our Refund and Returns Policy, and our Shipping and Delivery Policy, each of which is part of these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Site.
1. What we sell. Course Reader Material publishes and sells course readers prepared for specific college courses, instructors, and terms, in two formats: (a) printed, bound physical books that we ship to you, and (b) digital eBooks that you read online in our reader. Each product page states which format you are buying. The two formats are separate products and are not interchangeable.
2. Eligibility and accounts. You must be at least 18 years old, or at least 13 years old and using the Site with the consent of a parent or guardian who agrees to these Terms on your behalf. An account is required to purchase. You are responsible for keeping your login details confidential, for all activity under your account, and for keeping your account information (including your email address and shipping address) accurate. eBook access is tied to the account used at checkout. Accounts may not be shared, transferred, or sold. Each account is for one student and can be signed in on one device at a time: signing in on a new device signs the previous device out. To protect against sharing, we record the date, IP address, browser, and a device identifier for each sign-in and each visit to My Library. An account used on three or more devices within seven days is locked automatically until its owner sets a new password, and sharing may result in suspension or termination of the account and its eBook access without refund. Notify us at support@coursereadermaterial.com immediately if you believe your account has been used without authorization.
3. Choosing the correct product. Course readers are prepared for a specific course, instructor, term, and format, and cannot be exchanged for another course, instructor, term, or format. Before you complete checkout you are responsible for confirming that you have selected the correct course, instructor, term, and format (physical book or eBook), and, for physical books, that your shipping address is complete and correct.
4. Orders, prices, tax, and payment. Prices are shown in US dollars before sales tax. Applicable sales tax and, for physical books, shipping are calculated and displayed at checkout before you pay. Your order is an offer to buy; we accept it when we send the order confirmation email, and we may decline or cancel any order before fulfillment, including for suspected fraud, payment problems, pricing or listing errors, or unavailability of the product, in which case any amount charged will be refunded. If a product is listed at an obviously incorrect price, we may cancel the order and refund you. Payment is processed at checkout by Stripe (credit and debit cards); by paying you agree to Stripe’s terms, and you represent that you are authorized to use the payment method. We do not store full card numbers.
5. Physical books and shipping. Physical books are shipped by USPS to the shipping address you enter at checkout, normally within 1 to 3 business days after payment is confirmed, and you will receive a tracking number by email when your order ships. Shipping is charged per book at the flat rates shown at checkout (currently $8 per book within the United States and $20 per book for international orders) and is described in our Shipping and Delivery Policy. We are not responsible for delays, loss, or non-delivery caused by an incorrect or incomplete address you supplied, and we cannot redirect, replace, or refund such orders. Title and risk of loss pass to you when the carrier records delivery to the address you provided. Delivery estimates are estimates, not guarantees. International orders may be subject to customs duties, import taxes, or fees, which are your responsibility.
6. eBooks: license and access. When you buy an eBook you are buying a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access and read that eBook in our online reader through the end of the academic term the reader was prepared for, as shown on the product page (for example, a Fall 2026 reader is accessible through the end of the Fall 2026 term); you are not buying the content itself. The license is issued for that term only: access ends automatically on the term-end date and is not extended, renewed, or refunded. eBook access is granted to the account used at checkout after payment is processed and is delivered immediately, and by purchasing you expressly consent to immediate delivery. You may not share, lend, resell, sublicense, copy, screen-capture, print beyond the limits built into the reader, remove protections from, or post or distribute any part of an eBook. The online reader may show its own terms of use the first time you open a book; those terms also apply. We may suspend or terminate eBook access, without refund, for violation of this section. eBooks require a compatible device and an internet connection to download.
7. All sales are final. Because every course reader is prepared for a specific course and term, and because eBooks are digital content delivered immediately, ALL SALES ARE FINAL. We do not provide refunds, returns, exchanges, or cancellations once payment has been processed, for any reason, including without limitation: purchase of the wrong course, instructor, term, or format; dropping, switching, or withdrawing from a course; duplicate orders; change of mind; not using or not opening the product; or delivery to an incorrect address that you supplied. This rule is stated on every product page and in our Refund and Returns Policy, and you acknowledge it when you complete checkout. If a physical book arrives damaged or with missing pages, or is not delivered, or an eBook will not open, contact us within 14 days of the delivery date shown by the carrier (or of the expected delivery date if the package never arrived) so we can investigate; confirmed problems with a physical book are resolved by shipping a replacement copy at no charge, and confirmed eBook access problems are resolved by restoring access.
8. Payment disputes and chargebacks. If you have any problem with an order, you agree to contact us first at support@coursereadermaterial.com or +1 (310) 443-3303 and to give us a reasonable opportunity to resolve it before you dispute the charge with your bank or card issuer. We keep complete records of every order, payment, shipment, and eBook access, and we respond to and contest payment disputes filed for products that were delivered as described. If a dispute is filed for a product that was delivered as described, we may suspend the related eBook access and your account until the matter is resolved, and you remain responsible for the amount owed together with any dispute fees charged to us.
9. Intellectual property. The Site, its design, text, images, and software, and every course reader sold on it are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws and are owned by Course Reader Material or its licensors, including the instructors and authors who created the course readers. Buying a physical book or an eBook license does not transfer any ownership of the content. You may not scan, photocopy, reproduce, resell, rent, distribute, publicly display, or create derivative works from any course reader, in whole or in part, or use any Site content for any purpose other than your own personal, educational use. Copyright complaints should be sent to support@coursereadermaterial.com with the information required by 17 U.S.C. section 512(c)(3).
10. Acceptable use. You agree not to: use the Site for any unlawful purpose; access another person’s account; use bots, scrapers, or automated tools on the Site; attempt to bypass any security, access, or copy-protection measure, including the online reader’s; upload malicious code; or resell or commercially exploit any product or content. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
11. Communications. By providing your email address and phone number you agree that we may contact you about your account and orders by email and by text message (for example order confirmations, shipping and tracking updates, and eBook access instructions). Message and data rates may apply. We will only send marketing messages if you have opted in, and you can opt out of marketing at any time by following the instructions in the message or emailing support@coursereadermaterial.com. Clicking the WhatsApp chat button on the Site opens WhatsApp, which is operated by Meta under its own terms and privacy policy.
12. Third-party services. The Site relies on third-party services, including our eBook hosting and reading platform provider, Stripe (card payments), USPS (shipping), and WP Engine (hosting). Your use of those services is subject to their own terms and privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their acts or omissions or for any third-party site linked from the Site.
13. Disclaimers and limitation of liability. THE SITE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SITE OR THE ONLINE READER WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE. Course readers are compiled by or for the instructors named on them; we are not responsible for their academic content or for whether a particular course reader is required for your course. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, COURSE READER MATERIAL AND ITS OWNERS, EMPLOYEES, AND SUPPLIERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR ACADEMIC OPPORTUNITY, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SITE OR ANY PRODUCT, AND OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE PRODUCT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so some of these limits may not apply to you.
14. Governing law and disputes. These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Before filing any claim, you agree to contact us at support@coursereadermaterial.com and to try in good faith to resolve the dispute informally for at least 30 days. Any dispute that is not resolved informally will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Los Angeles County, California, and you consent to their jurisdiction, except that either party may bring an eligible claim in small claims court.
15. Indemnification. You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Course Reader Material and its owners, employees, and licensors from any claim, loss, or expense (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from your violation of these Terms, your infringement of any intellectual property right, or your misuse of any product or the Site.
16. Changes to the Site and these Terms. We may change products, prices, and the Site at any time. We may update these Terms by posting a revised version with a new “Last updated” date; the version in effect when you place an order governs that order, and continued use of the Site after a change means you accept the revised Terms.
17. Termination. We may suspend or terminate your account or access to the Site at any time for violation of these Terms or suspected fraud. Sections 6 through 9 and 13 through 18 survive termination.
18. General. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, Refund and Returns Policy, and Shipping and Delivery Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Site and your purchases. If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them to a successor. We are not liable for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including carrier delays, strikes, natural disasters, or outages of third-party services.
